1 et factum est cum introisset filius meus in thalamo suo, cecidit et mortuus est. "But it happened that when my son entered his wedding chamber, he fell down and died.           
2 et evertimus omnes lumina, et surrexerunt omnes cives mei ad consolandam me, et quievi usque in alium diem usque noctem. Then we all put out the lamps, and all my neighbours attempted to console me; and I remained quiet until evening of the second day.           
3 et factum est cum omnes quievissent ut me consolarentur ut quiescerem, et surrexi nocte et fugi et veni, sicut vides, in hoc campo. But when they all had stopped consoling me, that I might be quiet, I got up in the night and fled, and came to this field, as you see.           
4 et cogito iam non reverti in civitatem sed hic consistere, et neque manducabo neque bibam, sed sine intermissione lugere et ieiunare usque dum moriar. And now I intend not to return to the city, but to stay here, and I will neither eat nor drink, but without ceasing mourn and fast until I die."           
5 et dereliqui adhuc sermones in quibus eram et respondi cum iracundia ad eam et dixi: Then I broke off the reflections with which I was still engaged, and answered her in anger and said,           
6 stulta super omnes mulieres, non vides luctum nostrum et quae nobis contigerunt. "You most foolish of women, do you not see our mourning, and what has happened to us?           
7 quoniam Sion mater nostra omnium in tristitia contristatur et humilitate humiliata est. lugete validissime For Zion, the mother of us all, is in deep grief and great affliction.           
8 et nunc quoniam omnes lugemus, et tristes este quoniam omnes contristati sumus. tu autem contristaris in uno filio. It is most appropriate to mourn now, because we are all mourning, and to be sorrowful, because we are all sorrowing; you are sorrowing for one son, but we, the whole world, for our mother.           
9 interroga enim terram et dicet tibi, quoniam haec est quae debeat lugere tantorum superstes germinantium. Now ask the earth, and she will tell you that it is she who ought to mourn over so many who have come into being upon her.           
10 et ex ipsa initio omnes nati et alii venient, et ecce paene omnes in perditionem ambulant et in exterminium fit multitudo eorum. And from the beginning all have been born of her, and others will come; and behold, almost all go to perdition, and a multitude of them are destined for destruction.           
11 et quis ergo debet lugere magis nisi haec quae tam magnam multitudinem perdidit, quam tu quae pro uno doles? si autem dices mihi Who then ought to mourn the more, she who lost so great a multitude, or you who are grieving for one?           
12 quoniam non est similis planctus meus terrae, quoniam fructum ventris mei perdidi, quem cum maeroribus peperi et cum doloribus genui, But if you say to me, `My lamentation is not like the earth's, for I have lost the fruit of my womb, which I brought forth in pain and bore in sorrow;           
13 terra autem secundum viam terrae, abiit quae in ea multitudo praesens quomodo et venit et ego tibi dico: but it is with the earth according to the way of the earth - the multitude that is now in it goes as it came';           
14 sicut tu cum dolore peperisti, sic et terra dedit fructum suum hominem ab initio ei qui fecit eam. then I say to you, `As you brought forth in sorrow, so the earth also has from the beginning given her fruit, that is, man, to him who made her.'           
15 nunc ergo retine apud temet ipsam dolorem tuum et fortiter fer quae tibi contigerunt casus. Now, therefore, keep your sorrow to yourself, and bear bravely the troubles that have come upon you.           
16 si enim iustificaveris terminum Dei, et filium tuum recipies in tempore et in mulieribus conlaudaberis. For if you acknowledge the decree of God to be just, you will receive your son back in due time, and will be praised among women.           
17 ingredere ergo in civitatem ad virum tuum. et dixit ad me:
10:18 non faciam neque ingrediar civitatem, sed hic moriar.
10:19 et adposui adhuc loqui ad eam et dixi:
Therefore go into the city to your husband."           
20 noli facere sermonem hunc, sed consenti persuaderi -- quid enim casus Sion -- et consolare propter dolorem Hierusalem. "Do not say that, but let yourself be persuaded because of the troubles of Zion, and be consoled because of the sorrow of Jerusalem.           
21 vides enim, quoniam sanctificatio nostra deserta effecta est et altare nostrum demolitum est et templum nostrum destructum est, For you see that our sanctuary has been laid waste, our altar thrown down, our temple destroyed;           
22 et psalterium nostrum humiliatum est et hymnus noster conticuit et exultatio nostra dissoluta est, et lumen candelabri nostri extinctum est et arca testamenti nostri our harp has been laid low, our song has been silenced, and our rejoicing has been ended; the light of our lampstand has been put out, the ark of our covenant has been plundered, our holy things have been polluted, and the name by which we are called has been profaned; our free men have suffered abuse, our priests have been burned to death, our Levites have gone into captivity, our virgins have been defiled, and our wives have been ravished; our righteous men have been carried off, our little ones have been cast out, our young men have been enslaved and our strong men made powerless.           
23 et quod omnium maius, signaculum Sion, quoniam resignata est de gloria sua nunc et tradita est in manibus eorum qui nos oderunt. And, what is more than all, the seal of Zion - for she has now lost the seal of her glory, and has been given over into the hands of those that hate us.           
24 tu ergo excute tuam multam tristitiam et depone abs te multitudinem dolorum, ut tibi repropitietur Fortis et requiem faciat tibi Altissimus, requietionem laborum. Therefore shake off your great sadness and lay aside your many sorrows, so that the Mighty One may be merciful to you again, and the Most High may give you rest, a relief from your troubles."           
25 et factum est cum loquebar ad eam, et ecce facies eius fulgebat valde subito, et species coruscus fiebat visus eius, ut etiam paverem valde ad eam, et cogitarem quid While I was talking to her, behold, her face suddenly shone exceedingly, and her countenance flashed like lightning, so that I was too frightened to approach her, and my heart was terrified. While I was wondering what this meant,           
26 et ecce subito emisit sonum vocis magnum timore plenum, ut commoveretur terra a sono. et vidi, behold, she suddenly uttered a loud and fearful cry, so that the earth shook at the sound.           
27 et ecce amplius mulier non conparebat mihi, sed civitas aedificabatur et locus demonstrabatur de fundamentis magnis. et timui et clamavi voce magna et dixi: And I looked, and behold, the woman was no longer visible to me, but there was an established city, and a place of huge foundations showed itself. Then I was afraid, and cried with a loud voice and said,           
28 ubi est Urihel angelus, qui a principio venit ad me? quoniam ipse me fecit venire in multitudinem excessus mentis huius, et factus est finis meus in corruptionem et "Where is the angel Uriel, who came to me at first? For it was he who brought me into this overpowering bewilderment; my end has become corruption, and my prayer a reproach."           
29 et cum essem loquens ego haec, et ecce venit ad me angelus qui in principio venerat ad me et vidit me, As I was speaking these words, behold, the angel who had come to me at first came to me, and he looked upon me; Uriel interprets the vision. 2(4)Ezr.10.29-59         
30 et ecce eram positus ut mortuus et intellectus meus alienatus erat, et tenuit dexteram meam et confortavit me et statuit me super pedes meos et dixit mihi: and behold, I lay there like a corpse and I was deprived of my understanding. Then he grasped my right hand and strengthened me and set me on my feet, and said to me,           
31 quid tibi est et quare conturbaris et quid conturbatum est intellectum tuum et sensus cordis tui? et dixi: "What is the matter with you? And why are you troubled? And why are your understanding and the thoughts of your mind troubled?"           
32 quoniam derelinquens dereliquisti me. ego quidem feci secundum sermones tuos et exivi in campum, et ecce vidi et video quod non possum enarrare. et dixit ad me: I said, "Because you have forsaken me! I did as you directed, and went out into the field, and behold, I saw, and still see, what I am unable to explain."           
33 sta ut vir, et commonebo te. et dixi: He said to me, "Stand up like a man, and I will instruct you."           
34 loquere, dominus meus, tantum me noli derelinquere, ut non frustra moriar, I said, "Speak, my lord; only do not forsake me, lest I die before my time.           
35 quoniam vidi quae non sciebam, et audio quae non scio. For I have seen what I did not know, and I have heard what I do not understand.           
36 aut numquid sensus meus fallitur et anima mea somniat? Or is my mind deceived, and my soul dreaming?           
37 nunc ergo deprecor te, ut demonstres servo tuo de excessu hoc. et respondit ad me et dixit: Now therefore I entreat you to give your servant an explanation of this bewildering vision."           
38 audi me, et doceam te et dicam tibi de quibus times, quoniam Altissimus revelavit tibi mysteria multa. He answered me and said, "Listen to me and I will inform you, and tell you about the things which you fear, for the Most High has revealed many secrets to you.           
39 vidit rectam viam tuam quoniam sine intermissione contristabaris pro populo tuo et valde lugebas propter Sion. For he has seen your righteous conduct, that you have sorrowed continually for your people, and mourned greatly over Zion.           
40 hic ergo intellectus visionis: mulier quae tibi apparuit ante paululum, This therefore is the meaning of the vision.           
41 quam vidisti lugentem et inchoasti consolare eam, The woman who appeared to you a little while ago, whom you saw mourning and began to console -           
42 nunc autem iam non speciem mulieris vides, sed apparuit tibi civitas aedificari. but you do not now see the form of a woman, but an established city has appeared to you -           
43 et quoniam enarrabat tibi de casu filii sui, haec absolutio est: and as for her telling you about the misfortune of her son, this is the interpretation:           
44 haec mulier quam vidisti haec est Sion, quam nunc conspicis ut civitatem aedificatam. This woman whom you saw, whom you now behold as an established city, is Zion.           
45 et quoniam dixit tibi, quia sterilis fuit annis triginta, propter quod erant anni saeculo tria milia, quando non erat in ea adhuc oblatio oblata. And as for her telling you that she was barren for thirty years, it is because there were three thousand years in the world before any offering was offered in it.           
46 et factum est post annos tres, et aedificavit Salomon civitatem et obtulit oblationes. tunc fuit quando peperit sterilis filium. And after three thousand years Solomon built the city, and offered offerings; then it was that the barren woman bore a son.          
47 et quod tibi dixit quoniam nutrivi eum cum labore, haec erat habitatio Hierusalem. And as for her telling you that she brought him up with much care, that was the period of residence in Jerusalem.           
48 et quoniam dixit tibi quod filius meus veniens in suo thalamo mortuus esset et contigisset ei casus, haec erat quae facta est ruina Hierusalem. And as for her saying to you , `When my son entered his wedding chamber he died,' and that misfortune had overtaken her, that was the destruction which befell Jerusalem.           
49 et ecce vidisti similitudinem eius, quomodo filium luget, et tu inchoasti consolare eam de his quae contigerunt. haec erant tibi aperienda. And behold, you saw her likeness, how she mourned for her son, and you began to console her for what had happened.           
50 et nunc videns Altissimus, quoniam ex animo contristatus es et quoniam ex toto corde pateris pro ea, ostendit tibi claritatem gloriae eius et pulchritudinem decoris For now the Most High, seeing that you are sincerely grieved and profoundly distressed for her, has shown you the brilliance of her glory, and the loveliness of her beauty.           
51 propterea enim dixi tibi, ut maneres in campo, ubi domus non est aedificata. Therefore I told you to remain in the field where no house had been built,           
52 sciebam enim ego, quoniam Altissimus incipiebat tibi ostendere haec. for I knew that the Most High would reveal these things to you.           
53 propterea dixi tibi, ut venires in agrum, ubi non est fundamentum aedificii. Therefore I told you to go into the field where there was no foundation of any building,           
54 nec enim poterat opus aedificii hominis sustinere in loco, ubi incipiebat Altissimi civitas ostendi. for no work of man's building could endure in a place where the city of the Most High was to be revealed.           
55 tu ergo noli timere neque expavescat cor tuum, sed ingredere et vide splendorem vel magnitudinem aedificii, quantum capax est tibi visu oculorum videre. "Therefore do not be afraid, and do not let your heart be terrified; but go in and see the splendor and vastness of the building, as far as it is possible for your eyes to see it,           
56 et post haec audies, quantum capit auditus aurium tuarum audire. and afterward you will hear as much as your ears can hear.           
57 tu enim beatus es prae multis et vocatus es apud Altissimum sicut et pauci. For you are more blessed than many, and you have been called before the Most High, as but few have been.           
58 nocte autem quae in crastinum futura est manebis hic, But tomorrow night you shall remain here,           
59 et ostendet tibi Altissimus eas visiones somniorum, quae faciet Altissimus his qui inhabitant super terram a novissimis diebus. and the Most High will show you in those dream visions what the Most High will do to those who dwell on earth in the last days." So I slept that night and the following one, as he had commanded me.           
60 et dormivi illam noctem et aliam sicut dixerat mihi.

The Old Testament in Greek is Rahlf's LXX available in Word format at the Tyndale website, adapted to database format.
The alternative readings of the LXX - Judges (Alexandrinus), Daniel, Susanna & Bel (LXX received text), and Tobit (Sinaiticus [not printed in Swete]) as separate book references so that they can be viewed as an alternative text in parallel with the primary text.
(I have reversed the Swete presentation for Daniel, Susanna, Bel by listing in the later Theodotion LXX text as the main text. )
The LXX cross references to the Hebrew Bible have been extensively revised using those set out in Swete's 'Old Testament in Greek' publications between 1894 and 1909, amended in part to agree with verses as printed in the Biblia Hebraica (1937 publication).

Ecclesiasticus - Sirach Chs.30-36: The text of these chapters from 30.24 to 36.16, is disordered.
I have followed Swete's verse numbering for the greek text.
Also, the RSV verse numbering differs from the NRSV.
The NRSV appears to have followed Swete's numbering here, so I have re-ordered the RSV to agree with both the NRSV & Swete for these chapters.
