The church dates between 1140 and 1240.
Once the church of a benedictine nunnery, founded in 907.
After the
dissolution of the monasteries, in 1544 it was purchased from the king, Henry
VIII, by the parish of Romsey for use as the parish church.
This view
faces east down the nave.
The font -
the symbol of the start of the Christian journey -
takes pride of
place at the western (nearside) end of the nave.
